Reawaken the wisdom and the joy of the body through the different rhythms of Chakrah Dance, a healing and restorative body/spirit practice.
Designed for ages 9 to 90, Chakra Dance utilizes a wide range of music and movements to open up the body's seven main energy centers, or chakras. Chakra dancing helps restore the balance of these energy centers. A session will feature a wide variety of music and simple movements that relate to the rhythm of each particular Chakra. Movements are free and easy--no steps to learn. You can follow the leader’s moves—or not; improvise as you will, enjoying the energy we create as we move. Slowly sway, shake, twirl and grove-or do whatever is right for your body in the moment . The goal is not performance but embodying joyful energy, which can be slow as well as fast. We usually start slowly, the music builds as we move through the chakras and quiets down again and end with a few very basic stretches and yoga postures such as a short Yoga Nidre rest. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.
The instructor, Jane Deren Clay PHD, has been doing Chakra Dance for 30 years and leading sessions for 10 years: She is a dancer, writer, retreat convener and educator on social justice and spirituality.
