As a seasoned board certified clinician and member of the Menopause Society, American College of OB/GYN & Nurse Practitioners in Reproductive Health, I have become alarmed at how many women are "told and sold" they need "hormone testing" to find out if they are perimenopausal/ what stage in the transition they are in, or if they're actually menopausal. The link I provide here, is a fabulous article by Newsweek reporter, Hannah Milligton, based on an editorial from the British Medical Journal, disussing the often confusing and misleading information and delay in women getting the relief they desperately seek. Many of these companies that create these tests which are not FDA approved , have not been amply studied nor have the compounded hormones that women often request thinking that they are better than the FDA approved hornones, most of which, are natural and bioidentical and plant based. The information many of these commercial companies taut, market themselves as advocay or education and "not medical advice" themselves. This commercialization of women's healthcare moves away from evidenced based sound medicine and delays women's symptom relief. Women can best access information and treatment via a relationship with a trusted healthcare provider that will listen. If not, they may need a new clinician that truly listen's to women's concerns and symptoms and engages in shared decision making, like us! https://www.doximity.com/newsfeed/11a9a962-0fcd-41a6-9f6c-c42b840a0c7b/public
